Many thanks to Mr Graham Stewart from (now living in the USA) who submitted the above photo. The photo shows Miss Hunt's class in around 1966.

Graham also submitted the football photo below. He says.....

'This is the football team photo from either 1967/68 (I am on the bottom row far

right). It would be nice to know what the shield was that we won?'

Linda Kane submitted the photo below.

Linda says...'This is a photograph of Miss Hunt's Primary 7 class in 1968. Happy days !!!! My name then was Linda Galloway. I am standing in the 2nd row at the right. Would love to hear from anyone.'

Memories of the old St Joseph's School by Joe Robertson (grandfather of Lisa Cooper, pupil until 2003)

At the old St Joseph's the boys and girls started at 5 years old. They went to the school at the foot of Wilkies Lane. At age 7 the boys went up to the school on Daniel Street, that was the boys school. The girls school was still at the foot of Wilkies Lane.

St Joseph's used to own the Blackness Hall (now demolished and flats are on the site). That is where the school had its concerts.

On holidays of obligation the boys had to walk from Daniel Street to Mass. The girls used the ' tunnel' that connected their school to the church. The tunnel is now blocked off and has become almost a legend in the eyes of the current pupils.

Joe won the Leng Medal when he was twlelve, singing 'Come ye by Atholl'. Lisa's uncle Charlie won at age twelve also, singing 'Charlie is my darling'!

St Joseph's football team once won three cups in nine days! They were given medals for winning the Rock Cup, medals for winning the Meickleham Cup and watches for winning the AC Little Cup.

My best memory by Shannon Allan (pupil until 2003)

My best memory is when the whole school went to the Safari park on a trip in primary 3.

There were lots of things to do like watch the sea-lion show, visit all the beautiful animals. There was a petting zoo where you can pet the baby goats and the baby sheep. There was a big huge slide you can go on as many times as you like. There was also a gift shop you can visit. The Safari park was the best trip I had ever been on with the school and as we were leaving the bus started shaking because monkeys were jumping on the roof.

My memory by Helen Byrne (pupil until 2003)

St Joseph's school entered in the cross country run in 2003. I came 89th in the race and I am really pleased with it that I went  in and did the race. The boys did really well and Elliot came first.

My First Day by Greg Williamson (pupil until 2003)

My fondest memory of St Josephs primary is when I first came to the school. I had come from a small school into a huge one with over two hundred people. I can always remember the first day my teacher was Mrs Keogh. I made friends with Richard and Tom.

Memory by Miss Lothian

I remember all my teachers at St Joseph's really well because I only had two! Mrs Brady was my teacher in Primary 1 and 2, and Mrs Tully was my teacher in Primary 3,4,5,6 and 7. Every year at the end of term we would ask Mrs Tully which teacher we were getting the next year, and every year when we found out it was Mrs Tully again we would groan and say 'oh no, not AGAIN!' Secretly though I was really pleased because I thought Mrs Tully was a great teacher. There were three headteachers at St Joseph's in the time I was there, Sr Marie Therese, Mr Hunt and Sr Mary Angela. Mr Hunt used to have a go on the slides we made in the playground on icy days. Sr Mary Angela was a great Headteacher because she made us laugh a lot.

FROM LYNSEY BIRRELL AGE 12 (Former Pupil until 2003)

ST JOSEPHS WAS THE BEST SCHOOL. I STARTED HALF WAY IN PRIMARY 2 AND I MET LOTS OF FRIENDS.

MY BEST TEACHERS ARE MR CLARK (P7A) MISS LOTHIAN (P4) AND THEY WERE THE BEST.

IT WAS VERY HARD TRYING TO MEET NEW FRIENDS AND TEACHER CAUSE I WAS VERY SCARED

AND I REMEMBER THE FOOTBALL TEAM PLAYING OUTSIDE.
